Eowyn our newest addition finaly ate after three weeks, we know that thats not as long as others have waited for their new additions to eat but after three weeks of refusing food and we tried everything we could think of. Live pink rats, f/t pink rats, live hoppers, live and f/t small adult mice. We tried feeding her in a rubber maid we tried feeding her in her cage. We dipped the f/t in chicken broth made sure the f/t were at a normal body temp of a mouse. We tried and tried and nothing worked so we finnaly broke down and contacted the dealer and found out that they were feeding her live small adult mice in a paper bag. A Paper Bag Why Didnt We Think Of That Duh dont we feel like idiots. It was such a simple solution. So tonight Chrissy made a special trip to the store just for a paper bag and a mouse and low and behold she ate like a champ no sooner had we put her in the bag and she grab that little mouse and it was a gonener.

I'm glad to hear that your little girl ate. There's a Chinese place near me that serves their takeout meals in little paper bags. Ever since I've owned snakes and have heard about the paper bag trick, I've been saving mine so that I don't have to buy them specially for feeding snakes.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

It was funny Chrissy went to the store to see she could have a bag. "The clerk said sure but what do you want it for"? Chrissy said "We have a picky bp and wanted to try this to see if it worked". Then the clerk informed her that she had a desert tortis and can't keep her any more and if we were intersted lol. Got to love the reptile comunity and no we did not take her because I want a bearded dragon befor I get somthing other than a bp.

The pet store near my home tried to interest me in a bearded dragon. The guy let me hold it for a little bit, but I'm just not as interested in bearded dragons. This place is supposed to be getting a bp today in a trade. I want to see it, but I doubt that I'll be tempted to expand my collection. The snake that I want next is one of a couple of kinds of kingsnakes.

congrats on getting her to eat. One question though, did you give her a settling in period? You tried a bunch of methods (I counted 5) in a very short period which could have stressed her. Now that she has eaten, you can give her a break and only try to feed her every 7 days until she is on a regular feeding schedule with less hassel for you and the snake. I go by the old addage, give them time and space and they will eat for you. Granted they may not make it to breeding size in 2 yrs but they will get there eventually and you will have a non-stressed snake to boot. Again congrats and she's a good looking snake.

We have had her for 3 weeks. We were told when we got her she was fasted for 2 weeks befor the expo so that makes a total 0f 5 weeks that she did not eat. As far as letting her be yes we did, some of the feedings were multiple attemps to see if she wanted one or the other. Then we left her alone for 7 days then tried again. I was not worried but Chrissy was. The only thing that got me was we were told that she was on a regular feeding schedule for 8 months. We weighed her in at 134 grams just thought that was a little under weight. I know that not all bps will eat regular and gain alot of weight so I'm not worried. She will just take a little longer to get up to breeding weight.
Funny little side note to all of this she eats last night right.
Well the other 3 are going in shed and refused lol. They are all at good weights though average of 400 grams each.
