Frozen rodents..

phiber_optikx Mar 18, 2006 03:24 AM

I have been trying to switch to frozen but can't find a good provider. I am looking at rodentpro. Anyone have anything good to say about them?

Try AmericanRodent.com. They are great to work with and they are the cheapest I could find. They do a two day delivery by ground but trust me the stuff stays frozen. But they are definetly the cheapest, atleast for me.

Depending on their UPS shipping (I did not see a set price), they are more expensive than rodentpro. Although rodent pro has a set shipping cost, no matter what you order, the mice are like .16 cents each instead of the other company's .30 cents.
I didn't have any problems with RodentPro. The box came with plenty of dry ice (enough to last 2 extras days at least) and very cold. Although, I am only making my second purchase today, its something I would only have to do every 4 months or so.

This is my breeder set up, pictured below. I have around three females per male, per cage. I am finding that it is just not worth it. I just keep them around for the few snakes that I have that like live. I am selling almost all my collection that is not a corn, milk or king, so I will not have to keep live around much longer.
The expense and hastle of keeping breeders (unless done on a huge scale), just does not seem worth it any more. Yeah, it was great when I was still purchasing my mice from a pet store and paying $1 per mouse/pinkie, but with Rodent Pro, I get them for like .16 cents. That is just my opinion.

I ordered some from rodentpro and had no problem at all but like one of the other posts said....their shipping is outrageous unless you order a ton of mice!!

i use rodentpro also and they have always been good to my and my sisters snakes. the mice are always freash and keep for a very long time. but yes their shipping can be expensive, i usually split it up between me,my sister and a few friends. that helps alot if you have that option. i usually order enough for 6 mos so it doesnt hurt the pocket book that much they still work out to like 25 cents each shipped that way.

twice per year. Usually I get about 5,000 - 10,000 pinks and some assorted other chicks and rodents. I never ordered a small amount, but have always been very happy with the quality, price, and service on my orders.

I don't think $33.52 a box is that bad for all of the trouble in keeping them frozen. Maybe they are just close to me? I can have all of my snakes fed for 6 months for $75.

I have to pay like $65 for shipping, I think. It is very well packaged, I know dry ice is not cheap and it is well insulated, so I understand the shipping costs a little.

2 Boas, 2 Corns, 1 Gopher and 2 Leopard geckos 6 months of feeding = about $12 for mouse food, Never added up how much they cost me for water but I doubt its more than a couple bucks a year. The ocasional cage cleaning and I am not sure how much they cost on my power bill to freeze them but I doubt its anymore than if they were not in the freezer. I have 4 cages each with 3-4 mice in them that feed all of the above.. Every now and then I even have to double the number of prey items they get in a feeding do to just having to manny mice. I do agree the simple st up I have is a lump of change at around $100 "including mice" However it beets the hell out of $20 per week buying mice from the pet store. I bread mice when I was younger for my snakes and still do it today. Only way to go in my book
