yearling ebt size?

megalon Mar 18, 2006 04:36 PM

hi all!i have a pair of cb ebt, almost yearlings.i was just wondering how big they should be by now,on average.the male's about 3" scl,the female 3 1/2" scl.are they small for their age?i honestly don't know, they're my first boxies.they are both little piggies, and i make sure that there is ALWAYS something crawling in their 55 gal tank.they just came out of hibernation this week,(i live in sc,and keep them outside).they eat mealies, crickets, waxworms,& red wrigglers.do they grow this slowly,or am i under feeding them?i'm used to water turtles, btw, like yellow belly sliders & peninsula cooters.
thanks for any advice!peace.

While they are good eaters, and seem to have a good environment...genetics are a factor in their growth and final size. For yearlings they are in the normal range for size.

With regards to growth in water turtles; boxies grow much more slowly but have much longer life spans than water turtles.... So it seems nature gives water turtles a growth boost to reach maturation faster, possibly to ensure propagation of their species before their life span is over.
