A couple ovulations!

muddoc Mar 18, 2006 07:52 PM

Here are the latest two females to ovulate for us this year.

First, a Normal that was bred by our Spider. There is a unique story behind this girl. Last year she bred my Pastel, and we swore we witnessed ovulation. Well many months went by and no eggs. I could palpate something in her, as well as a good friend of mine. Still no eggs and she began eating again. Well, this year, she bred my Spider about five times and her follicles started growing. I got a friend of mine to ultra-sound her to see what was in her, and it looked like a jumbled mess. She appeared to have old slugs and follicles in her. She just ovulated a few days ago, and we are hoping that she will not have any problems laying her eggs. We don't want her to die(egg bound), as this happens to be the first ball python that we ever bought. She feels like she has five eggs, but, we'll see.

And a het Albino bred by our Albino. She has seven eggs in her.

Thanks for looking,

... watching that snake lay those eggs. When we looked at her on the ultrasound I was so surprised. I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like that on any snake that I have ever scanned before! Just for those who are reading this and are interested... the follicles/ovum (from last year we think) are a totally different density that those from this year. The older ones appear hard, perhaps calicfied and the new ones are big and squishy like they should be.

Time, let me know what happens with her. If she goes far past her laying date then I'll hook you up with Dr. Mitchell at LSU Vet and he will operate on her. One of my females from last year ws egg bound with 5 HUGE eggs. Drs. Mitchell and Diaz made 2 incisions along the side of the snake and removed all 5 eggs sucessfully. All the eggs died but the female did great and produced large follicles this year. I have bred her and she appears to be on her way to production.

Congrats on the ovulations! It will be nice to see some Albinos from that nice male!

Take care...
