LIKE THEM NATURAL

sallie_keeper Mar 19, 2006 12:37 AM

I am looking for a 100% natural striped pacific gophersnake. How do I find one without stealing it from the wild. I do believe in captive bred, but almost everything has been inbred to get fancy mutation..like albinos and hybinos.. All are very beautiful, but you miss the natural beauty of these wonderful animals. AND I have no idea if the snake will be pure species or a hybrid of different gophers to get the morph... Other than going snake hunting how do I get these awesome snakes???

Any thoughts???

Since striped pacific gophers are found in the wild, captive born stock should be outbred enough not to worry about it. This is mainly a problem with morphs like albino for which there is only one founder which all stock is related to. For the striped pac gophers, there is a wild population and therefore a healthy stock should be available.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper stored up acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched tv. And then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus stole all his acorns, and he got a race car. Is any of this sinking in?
