UV Light Problem: How to Fix?

normref Mar 19, 2006 08:10 AM

Hi. I purchased a 160 watt Powersun light for our Skinks about 60 days ago. The light goes out occasionally and I have trouble getting it back on again even after 30 minutes of cool down.

Problem: The light is sensitive when screwing it in and sometimes goes on half way or 3/4's on and so forth. Is there a trick to the light actually making connection properly so I don't have to go through this every time?

Thanks.

Norm

Norm,

It sounds like the bulb is too much for the fixture rating. Is your fixture a ceramic base that is rated for the heat of that bulb? We had this happen once and had to change the fixture - it built up too much heat and the light would take forever to reset.

The best thing you can do is see about replacing it where you bought it they should send it back to ZOO-MED.
If not email Zoo med (though their customer service stinks ). You cam also try posting this in cage forum as they might be able to help you they are pretty good at stuff like this.
I had same problem but thankfully it happened right away (first week) and exchanged it no cost .
This one works great (its been few months) . If no one will replace it since its been awhile since you had it ask around in cage forum as many there buy the cheap but just as effective halogen bulbs at home depot, etc that I understand give off UV to.
