Hey all. We are going to pick up a couple of these little snakes on Thursday, and I can't seem to find any info on their care anywhere.

The guy at the store said to keep them in water with a piece of bark floating in it, but that doesn't seem right. I figured I would set up their tank much like a turtle's, with 25% dry with a basking spot and ground cover to hide in, and 75% lagoon with live water plants. We got a submersible heater and a "reptile and amphibian" filter as well. Should actually be kinda cool. I will post pics soon.

I saw a post below that says they are similar to "Natrix" in care. Black swamp snake? If so, what are the general temps for them?

I think they derive from a cool environment so the water heater may cook them and the filter vibration may stress them, and all that water may blister them. Perhaps you might consider going to an extensive setup once they are settled and you are sure they are healthy and have good skin conditions. I have a nice pair doing well in a simple 5 gallon set up with some orchid moss and a water bowl and keep a bit of orchid moss in the bowl with them to keep the ph of the water good to avoid blisters and a small heat lamp on one end over a rock and some branches so they can bask and dry their skin. They eat guppies and mollies but do not seem to wish to fill up like our water snakes and rather eat a few and settled down for a nap. Just keep an eye on their temps as I think they are a cool weather species from china. Good Luck.

I actually found some info in Phillipe de Vojolis' "The Art of Keeping Snakes". Thank you for your advice and I will give them some time to make sure they are healthy.

Thanks again,
