Ingo, help!

clouddancer22 Mar 19, 2006 10:30 AM

Charlize has laid her first two eggs, and they are not right at all. I was hoping for some input as to what I can do differently.

She laid one on her basking branch, and the other just below (or maybe it just fell off) on two different days. She is two and a half, and these are her first. They look like yellow jelly beans, with a red line. One broke open, and was all pasty - yuck!

Last month she had a bout of parasites, and got flagyl. Could this have contributed to the problem. Or not enough calcium? I have been giving her extra during the mating season.

Thanks so much, I can't seem to find anyone who might know.

Sounds like infertile eggs.
And the number is too low for a full clutch.
Even the first clutch of a virgin female typically consists of 6 or more eggs..
That means thet very likely she is carrying additional eggs (unless she has buried th rest somewhere-have you looked that up?).
So within the next week she should lay the rest.
For that you should provide proper nesting sides.
If she won´t lay, a X-ray should clarify if and how many eggs she is still carrying.
Then a Vet has to decide: Try ocitocin or immediately go for surgery. That will depend on the animals condition.

I keep my fingers crossed

Charlize is not a virgin anymore. But, I am fairly certain she was carrying eggs already before I introduced her new boyfriend. I had to move him to a temp viv, because he pretty much tore her crest off.

I know they have mated several times, I am just wondering when the fertalization takes place in the sequence of things. She has still not laid any additional eggs, but is digging deep deep holes like crazy!

I have a friend who has three wd's. The male and female pair do not seem to be interested in procreating at all, the female runs him off. The other female is housed by herself, and she laid an egg in her water dish, and another by the water dish a week later or so. That was last year. I am thinking that she has laid an egg or so this year as well, but definitely NOT a clutch!

I have a hovabator ready, but can't seem to get this egg thing down.
