Help!!! Sick wild-caught

balrog Mar 19, 2006 02:22 PM

This is not the first uro I have raised so this causes alarm. I have been raising Nigerian Uros for a while with success. But the yellow phase male i got a few weeks ago turned out to be wildcaught, which i am disappointed in. Anyway, he is porgressively lossing weight and not really eating the way he should. He doesnt like crickets and is very shy. I have him in a flatbed 55 gallon with a 150 uvb spot bulb at one end for basking at a height of about 20 inches from base of aquarium (bulb not in tank but sits above ontop of meshwire lid, and a full spectrum long tube. There are plenty of hiding places so not to freak him out. Ive constructed a 2-door hinged lid on top for easy cleaning and access. Im doing everything i can think of...but the problem just seems to get worse. Why is he not eating?

You shouldn't ever feed crickets to sick uro. A healthy one shouldn't have a constant diet of crickets either (only a few a month is plenty) if none at all. His diet should be consisting of dark leafy greens like endive, escarole, dandelion, and mustard green.
You should take this fella to the vet ASAP!
