Female "Pinner" Hypo Honduran.......

davester Mar 19, 2006 02:30 PM

I hope I can get this female up to size, now weighing in at 265grams I think she might be able to later in the year. I decided to take her outdoors, probably her first time ever.
Just wanted to share!

Is that a pic of your "het" pinner or "het" hypo clutch? If so were any of them "good" pinners and did you breed her to a hypo or just an average normal?

tspuckler Mar 21, 2006 02:18 PM

That's a clutch of hets from last year. I haven't bred back any het offspring to the father, but will probably do so next yeat.

I bred one of Tim's het-hypo females to one of my males that has pretty much normal bands and got this girl...

I see! Your pic is of a pinner hypo male and you bred him to a normal female, producing normal looking het hypos. None of which are pinners. So in theory judging from the neonate Paul posted is they are in fact het for pinner hypos. I am still trying to figure out if "pinner" pattern is recesive, co-dom, or dom. I know their pattern is highly variable though.
Thanks

Pinbanded is not a simple recessive genetic trait like hypomelanism. I have found that pattern variations are inheritable, though not in a predictable way. Things like oreo Pueblans don't always breed true, even when crossing oreo X oreo. I'd imagine pinbanded works the same way.

Some friends have produced some very freaky striped/aberrant hondos, and these don't usually make aberrant offspring, even when bred to siblings.

Interesting, I thought the striped hondos Bailey produces are the only true recessive striped mutation. Every thing else is abberent just some look striped.
