How to capture the household fly?

bigmansm Mar 19, 2006 04:26 PM

In my office we leave the front door open so there are tons of flies that are slying around.

I want to be able to capture some of these flies and feed them to my CHAM. Maybe even breed them and feed them.

If there any substance or food that i can lay on the desk that will attrach the flies? Ideally, i'd like to be able to put some type of attraching agent in the bottom of a jar, that way i can just seal the top when there are enough flies in there.

Ideas/ suggestions?

although as adults they will eat just about anything, the maggot (larvae) feeds on decomposing matter and feces and the adults often do, too - as I am sure you have witnessed .

There are some places you can order flies from in different stages and raise them on yogurt and honey mixture. Check out:

grubco.com

once in a while is probably OK, but you risk passing along parasites to your cham. ;(

Only one of the websites you gave me actually worked.

I had a feeling this would be an issue. I was thinking to overcome this, i could keep those files and start a new batch of flies from the eggs they lay.

I guess i wont bother! My little jackson is pretty good at catching the moving feeders.
