New Nosy Be

dianedfisher Mar 19, 2006 05:09 PM

I felt the new addition had acclimated enough to be briefly photographed, so here he is. His name is Chyam, prounounced KYE-AM. This is his normal color. His eye turrets are purplish/grey and I am profoundly thankful to Kinyonga for posting links to "normal" eye photos, because I was misting the **** out of him because I thought his eyes looked "sunken". I have not handled him, so I don't know what, if anything, happens to him color-wise if he is annoyed. He is 8 months old. After my poor baby Thraxxis died, I was afraid to try with a baby, so I purchased this guy, who is 8 months old. He was just misted when I took this photo, so the spots are water drops. Diane

I am such a shutter bug I don't give my guys any time to settle in...but I use a zoom so they don't know

I like his name! Did you take it from Omar Khyyam? I love to change traditional spelling - thinking of make some modifications to Cyrus, but he will have to let me know

I am so glad that Chyam is doing so well and that YOU are too! lol! Amazing how these funny creatures really get a foothold on our hearts - and minds! He looks healthy! Is your cgae wood with the plastic netting on the inside of all the sides? Looks like the rear (in pic) is solid? Can you pst some pics of your whole setup? I think we can all learn so much (and get inspiration) from others!. I am loving that Cyrus is still so tiny, but look forward to decorating his big cage later in the season. It will probably be much like Luna's but more plants on the bottom since I won't need a laying tub - lots of plants instead

Gee, you, Brian, I...any others with new Nosy Be's? It's fun to "grow up together" on the forum. I think it is the first Nosy Be for each of us, too.

kisses to Chyam

I'll take a better picture of the cage when I'm home. Because Chyam had evidently been raised in a screen cage he had difficulty when he first came navigating around the cage. I think he missed climbing on the screen sides-even though he has a zillion faux vines to navigate with so I used a staple gun to add pieces of plastic roof gutter guard around the 3 wooden sides so he had something to grip. He seems to like it much better. The front door and top of the cage are wire (1/4" top and 1/8" front). I used your name finder site. Shyam is the word for "blue" in Hindu. So I changed it to Chyam because it was more pleasing to me. Diane

Whats with everyone and their names? haha. Now I feel bad for just giving mine letters of the alphabet. A,B,C,D,E... etc. Then offspring will be, AD1,AD2,AD3...etc for example.

Although a few do have nicknames. One is Lenny, A female veild from a previous owner, since I gave them visitation rights... the name had to stick . Then there is grumpy, because thats what you think when you see his expression. And another, The female who had the eye problem, is sometimes called TwoFace because of the scaring on one side of her face.

I guess I am starting to know what you guys are doing. My girlfriend now has been helping once and a while, and she named a pygmy chameleon Ted. :| Yes Ted.

Thanks to you both, for making me feel so welcome. I felt so bad after Thraxxis died (severe guilt no doubt) but I really enjoy watching and caring for them. I surely hope I can do a better job with Chyam. Diane
