That is one excellent specimen of a GBK Alterna phase. Derek

Mike,
How about some history on that snake and it's parents? Maybe photos of the ventral surface and ventral scale count would help too.

IMO - There are a couple things about that snake that jump out at me right now like background color and head shape that tell me it has greeri (or thayeri) in it somewhere.

Keep in mind that IMO means that it's just what I THINK, not what I KNOW - I've been wrong on more than one occasion

Best
Joe

I would have just though very nice generic alterna but since you mentioned it the dark blushing on the head is reminescent of thayeri.

Hi Joe,

Thats just it i really dont have any history on this animal b/c it came to me in a trade.. so i am sort of fishing for opinions here.. But, i agree with you that it looks like it may be crossed with greeri/thayeri somewhere in his line.. i will take a pic of his belly and post it up asap.. And, thanks for your input!

I dunno Mike. The dorsal looks weirder than the ventral IMO.
I saw some greeri x alterna once that had a couple dead ringers in the clutch for that snake.

My best guess is that it has something in it, but again, that's just a guess.

Best
Joe

Jeez Joe your pretty good. I didn't even see anything other than a light Alterna at first but on a second look you are probably right. This is why I hate hybrids. Great looking snake but not what you think it is unless Joe tells you.

First thing I thought when I saw the snake was it looked like a hybrid. I'm in agreement with you.

Dannus,..........you really need to quit being so "behind the scenes" and get more active in conversation (like the old days). You're like a gopher dude! You only pop up above ground occasionally! Get more involved and start posting more instead of just monitoring! Good to hear from you again. Don't make me come over there!!! See ya dude!

I am still on dial up so the pic was downloading slowly and before I could even see the head I figured it was tarnished with thayeri.Once I could see the head I have no doubt that its a alterna x thayeri cross.
Like Joe I have nothing to back it up other than I have looked at thousands of alternas (just stay with Ric Blair LOL)and probably that many thayeri.
