There are too many stories to tell unfortunately, but here is a photographic journal of the last month.

My first toad of the year also ended up being the ugliest. I have seen bunches since this guy but didn't take any real time with them other than in hand shots for record keeping purposes.

American Toad
Bufo americanus

Of course the peepers have been going nuts.

Spring Peepers - click on the name for snippets of their call.
Pseudacris crucifer

This one had a little stage fright...

And these three were not too happy to be interupted. I am not sure how this really works...

My first ever Western Chorus Frog! I know I know...
Pseudacris triseriata

A cute little bullfrog
Rana catesbeiana

A nicely colored Green Frog
Rana clamitans

Pickeral Frog
Rana palustris

The Wood Frogs have been going bonkers!!
Some wood frog habitat... It was a giant megaphone.

Here is what I heard

And here is one of one I saw.
Rana sylvatica

And some eggs were present.

More of these beasties

Hope you enjoyed! I should have some more to add tomorrow, the amount of pictures accumulating was overwhelming though.

Where did you find that marbled salamander?
I'm going to have to make you tell me.

I have my ways.

Seriously, very nice pics as always.
My stoopit camera will be out of function for another month it looks like.

Ditto on the great pics. BTW, how DID you get the five lined skink to stay still for the pic? Dip him in liquid oxygen first to slow it down a bit? lol

DeanAlessandrini Mar 24, 2006 07:22 AM

I was with Jason on this little outing...

We found 2 five lines and it was a 45 degree day.
They were in suspended animation...VERY slow moving.

I had never found 5 line skinks in Hamilton cty before, and a 45 degree day to boot. It was a great afternoon.

Like Dean said, he was VERY cold. I tried to clean him off better, but I guess I didn't do a very good job...
