UV Light Connection Problem: Need Advice

normref Mar 20, 2006 11:51 AM

Hi. I purchased a 160 watt Powersun light for our Skinks about 60 days ago. The light goes out occasionally and I have trouble getting it back on again even after 30 minutes of cool down.

Problem: The light is sensitive when screwing it in and sometimes goes on half way or 3/4's on and so forth. Is there a trick to the light actually making connection properly so I don't have to go through this every time?

Thanks.

Norm

No, trick it just needs a good connection. I would replace you socket, that should cure the problem.

These bulbs are self ballesting a poor connection will significantly reduce its life.

I concur with Bighurt - change the socket and see if that helps clear up the problem, if not you might be outta luck. ZooMed had issues with some Powersun bulbs at one point. Apparently their bulbs had a shorter lifespan than projected, also they're especially prone to burning out if the fixture gets jostled around a lot - as in a fixture that sits on a screen that gets moved around a lot when you have to gain access to the tank.

Big animals, little animals, plants - right down to the sea itself. We need them, not just for their own sake, but because all this has to be here for everybody forever. Only one thing is certain: if we are to preserve our environment and save this priceless wildlife we need much, much more knowledge.
