Snake drooling

mack1time Mar 20, 2006 02:31 PM

Okay so i have posted this on the boa forum but needed more opinions. Last night my female red-tail who is in the blue was observed soaking in her water dish. Also for the past few days she has been on the colder side of her tank. I removed her from the water ant there was a clear sticky mucus salivating from her mouth. I wiped clear and she was blowing bubbles. Now i know this could be serious and have booked an appointment at vet for as soon as i can afford at the end of mnth. But what can i do in meantime? And would it hurt to leave lights on all night?

Chances are it's a respiratory infection. You should keep her warmer than normal. The vet will probably give the snake antibiotics to fight the infection (if that's what it is).

for a red night time bulb, if you have to leave them on all night. A white light bulb running 24 hours a day can stress out your snake, just as it would a person.

Is that your only source of heat for her? If so, do you turn it off at night? That COULD be part of your problem, if so. Remember that boas are tropical, so they need to have it warmer than our corns at night.

I would also bump up the heat until you can get her to the vet. And keep a close eye on her for any more complications.

I thought i had a heat pad in there which was exo-terra but i just felt it and it must be broken who knows for how long. I am going to bump the temp for at night and taking her to a vet on the 1st . Ill let every1 know what happens. So a red bulb can be used 24 hours and what if its in a bsmt with no windows or natural light?
