I don't know what happened...

Grunngg Mar 20, 2006 04:54 PM

My green Pacman died last night.. Maybe someone here can help me figure out what happened.

Two nights ago I went into my room to check on my frog. I was going to do my nightly routine misting and cleaning its water dish. Well I looked around for my Pacman and found it under the moss looking really shrivlled up. The moss was still damp so I know it wasn't dried up, but I took my frog out and cleaned out the entire tank and put in some paper towels. I put the frog in the new "hospitol tank" misted the whole thing good and gave it a water bowel. I tried to feed it a few meal worms but it wouldnt eat. Well, I kept checking on it through the night and yesterday during the day. All seemed fine. It moved around a bit and was back to its normal plump shape. So I made sure I misted it some more then I went out for the day. I came home at night went to check on it and it was dead. It's one side, closer to its legs seemed bloated out more then the rest of him. Is this a sign of impaction? Maybe it ate a mouthful of sphagnum moss? What do you guys think?

Most likely impaction. You can disect it if you want to know for sure. I'm sorry to hear this.

I really don't want to disect my frog..

What should I use for substrate? I have two other Pacmans. A Brown and an Albino. Theyre on the same moss. I'm going to move them to paper towels tonight. What's the best for them, that wont get impacted?

I'm with you, I wouldn't want to disect a frog that I've kept as a pet either. I use bed-a-beast substrate. It is solid brick but when you put it in water to soak for a half an hour it turns into moist soil that has coconut in it and if your frog swallows it it'll be fine. If you can't get that, then use forest bed or something along the line.

I use BedABeast with alot of other animals. I've got my Pacmans on moist paper towels right now. I'll probably go with the BedABeast next.
