She wont eat

sd2fast4u Mar 20, 2006 09:32 PM

They are both just a week or so out of hibernation, and I have been keeping them in the house this past week because we had two warm weeks and this week and last its been very cold again. The big male is eating nightcrawlers, meal worms, and earthworms. But I have given the female all the same plus tomatos and strawberrys and she has not eaten anything. Is this normal with the crazy weather?

Your female boxie not having an appetite just after pulling her from hibernation ( even after a few weeks ) is normal.

Soak her a few days for an hour in warm water and increase her lighting exposure..preferably with UVB. This will cause her hormones to kick in and should improve her appetite.

I'm assuming her movement is normal and there are no obvious bacterial infections. Just to play it safe your may wish to try and prop open her mouth carefully and have a look to see if while hibernating she developed any mouth fungus. This would interfere with her eating and swallowing. But this is a more rare finding. Usually warm water and UVB light is all that is necessary. Get back with us and give us an update.
