Helix Radiant Heat Panel question

captnemo Mar 20, 2006 11:19 PM

I recently hooked up several new Helix radiant heat panels, and have noticed a plastic/chemical type smell coming from them. It's not too strong an odor, and haven't noticed any adverse effects, but was wondering if anyone has any input as to long term use. Thanks in advance!

that's the only knock i've heard on the helix RHP's,they need to offgas for a week or two.most folks run them for this period before putting them in use, whish i had more info.perhaps helix could inform you if this offgassing could cause any harm to your animals.

Thanks for the info- I wish the supplier had informed me of that, or Helix had put something in the paperwork.....anyone have a # for Helix off-hand?

Pro product panels don't have that problem. I have three and I have never smelled anything. However you are not the first to notice this about helix panels. This is what turned me off to them. I really like the help at pro products very knowledgable, and I have not heard a bad think about them from anyone.

yeah, ProProducts was my first choice too, but I had a credit w/ the retailer, so I figured I'd try them out. After a few days keeping them on constantly (away from the snakes to be safe), the odor was gone...but I bet you can guess where my next panels are coming from
