Black tree monitors???

aera Mar 21, 2006 05:13 AM

Anyone know of an established pair of black tree monitors for surplus in the san diego area? I have been looking, but all of the black trees I have found in my area look like super fresh imports.
Thanks,Aera

There have not been any Black Tree Monitors imported in almost, if not over a year. The condition that you are seeing these animals in are the result of poor husbandry by their keepers.

Sadly, in most cases, these animals are not thriving in captivity, but are instead dying a slow death. Being that there is a quota of zero set for V. beccarii now(to my knowledge), and the fact that most people manage to kill off their tree monitors(especially females) within their first year of keeping them, do not expect many more to be popping up, unless more are exported from Indonesia.

My advice to you would be to stay on your toes, keep your eyes peeled for any that should pop up for sale, and to network with other tree monitor keepers. I have found this to be the most successful way of finding tree monitors people are looking to sell. Good luck,

Bob
