another cool question

captotterboy Mar 21, 2006 11:45 AM

I have this great spot where i can sit across the room and watch charlie doing charlie things. while watching i thought of a new question.

How good is a chameleon's hearing? Their eyesite is very good, obviously, but can he hear me when i talk to him? (asking such things like "are you looking at me? are you looking at me?)

Thanks,
Jeff

Chameleons do not have external ears. They only hear low frequency noises and sense vibrations. Their eyesight is extremely valuable to them. The females will often hiss at the males when they come together for mating. I would guess that the males can hear this, otherwise why would the female do it.

I've seen mine respond to music before. not angry or scared just kinda perk up and listening.

They do respond/hear the bass end of music as it is low frequency. Your cham may get stressed if he feels he's being watched a lot. A cham's whole approach to the world is to stay out of sight. If you cage setup is stuffed full of bushy plants he will feel more secure and have the option to hide if/when he wants a break from you watching him. If YOU have trouble finding him, its just right!
