Re-Using a Cage

indus Jul 28, 2003 05:51 PM

I had a cage that I put a Fat tail gecko in, the Fat Tail was believed to be wild caught, I know I should not have but it was cheap and I thought I could take it to the vet and nurse it back to health, well it passed on before I ever got it to the vet and I am afraid to re-use the cage, Is it OK to resue it and any furniture in it if I soaked it overnight in a 10% bleach solution and baked the furniture at 300 degrees for 15 min. any input would help thanks

the tank and screen lid are are reusable if you use a very strong bleach and hot water solution. make sure to rinse everything out really really well, and let the tank sit empty for a few days to get the bleach smell out before you start to setup the tank. i would NOT reuse the cage furnishings, it will be alot easier to just go out and get new things or make new hides. that's my opinion.

a good washing in a 10% bleach solution should do it for the tank and anything not wood. Soak wood in the same and then soak in a good clean rinse then dry really well.
