Crested fasting

rosey-b Mar 21, 2006 02:48 PM

I recently posted a couple of pics of my cresteds. The female, Tiga, has laid a couple of clutches his year, and has recently stopped feeding. This happened once before. I noticed she was loosing weight, and removed her from the enclosure into another smaller tank. She quickly recovered, and since the conditions in both tanks were the same (temp, humidity, food, etc), I figured the male she was paired with was stressing her out. He's a vigorous breeder, and is constantly making advances. Anyway, I've separated her again, but she still isn't eating. I weighed her yesterday and she's down to 36 grams - she's normally around 40. Has anyone else experienced this problem before? While they are a breeding pair, any eggs I get from these guys are a bonus. Their health is my number one concern. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Here's a pic of Tiga before the weight loss.

she will be fine at 36 grams. If she starts getting towards 30 grams or below or starts to look unhealthy then maybe you should start worrying about it.
Keep her separate for a few months before letting the male back with her. I keep all of my cresteds separate because they seem to stress eachother out. I just place the male in with the female once a week or so and everything seems to work out just fine.
A 4 gram drop could easily be stress related, or related to recently laid eggs too.
