Heating a Rack Set Up

MattieMay83 Mar 21, 2006 04:52 PM

hi everyone!
I have owned leopard geckos for a little over a year. I have two geckos currently, and they are a breeding pair. I got the geckos from a girl who was neglecting them. I knew next to nothing about geckos, but quickly learned, and once their health was good and they were in a proper enclosure my female began laying eggs! Last summer all her eggs were infertile, but this season she has laid 6 so far and all are fertile.

I have found that I really enjoy breeding these geckos. I love geckos and I would like to expand my collection of geckos. I want to build a rack set-up using rubbermaid containers, as others have spoken about. My question is about heating. I am having a hard time working out how exactly I should heat the boxes. I will have metal shelving with no back, so there will be room for cords and such. I have heard of using heat tape, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any advice on how to get started heating? I will only have a few boxes to begin with, but in the years to come hope to add more so I want to set it up in such a way that i can accomodate a large number of boxes. Thanks for any advice!

I got the heat tape at "the Bean farm." They sell all the accessories and even the info on how to wire it, etc.

"Heat Rope" is also good and used by some respected breedesr. It comes usually in 23 foot lengths and it costs around $25. Economical But don't just use the tape or rope. Buy a tempature controller like one of the ones on Big apple herp's website. Anoter more expensive option with heat tape is the Helix Systems. I prefer using ZooMed's $15 heat controller a Temp Gun.

Hope it helped
