Extreme Hypo Female

falconsnakefarms Mar 21, 2006 11:16 PM

Hopefully this girl will go this year. Keep the standards high for the extremes and label animals that are similar to this as extremes. There are some nice ones out there. Please don't water them down. It's interesting to see lately all the BP terms migrating over to the milksnake terminology. The 3 Main characteristics are: 1. Bright colors, neon and little or no black tipping 2. Black pigment for bands becomes a silver blue grey color. Looks almost olive in some mature animals. These animals have zero black pigment. 3. red or lighter color eyes. The pattern varies greatly from perfect triad patterns to narrow bands (pinband) to vanishing. The male for this snake is even nicer but in the blue. I am still not 100% convinced this is a true recessive trait even though I hear the term "het for extreme" out there. But that is just my humble observation so far. If this pair goes I will really have more insight on how to connect the dots regarding the genetics behind this morph.

I agree completely, what a perfect example of a Vanishing Extreme Hypo. Personally I think we all need to work together, share data, and pinpoint percent ratios from the many combinations.
1. Extreme Hypo x Extreme Hypo
2. Extreme Hypo x Hypo (offspring from extreme hypo x hypo
pairing), I will be attempting this pairing next year.
3. Extreme Hypo x Hypo (with no relation to an extreme)this will the key pairing to determin Co/Dom or Dom inheritance.
4. Extreme Hypo x normal (and start the procedure all over again)
With all the extreme hypos out there it's hard to beleive no one has proved Recessive, Co/Dom, or Dominent inheritance. The red pupils has a lot to do with it, different degrees of red eyed hypos with the extreme being the purest, I still think T plus albino!

Having some numbers to go along with those pairings you mentioned would go along way to figuring the extreme trait out.

My pet explanation is that both hypo and extreme are different alleles of the same gene, so HH would be normal, hh would be hypo, he would be a really really nice extremish hypo, while ee would be extreme. In this scenario both h and e are recessive to H, but incompletly dominant to each other.

Ofcourse, this will likely fall apart when the test pairings are done, its still fun to speculate though.

Very well said, is that the same explination to use for the Ultramel corn? There is a lot of useful information on VMSHerp's education section. They have rewritten the punnett square for this exact scenario.

One in the same as the ultramel. I havent seen the section at vms herp, but will check it out. I saw this info in cornsnake forums a while back and it seemed similar to the extremes.

Wow...that turned out nice..Nice looking extreme. I'm finding that nice female extremes are hard to come as most of them seem to be males. Keep in touch...mike

I mean lil' fatty in a good way, she has a nice olive tint too! Please keep us posted on your pairings.

here are my results so far. i started with the pinbanded but completely normal hypos i got from you. [sibs to dunhams extreme]my first clutch last year was three good eggs. i hatched two male extremes, and a normal female pinbanded hypo, now owned by terry maheuron. no intergrades, no maybes, just a clear one or the other. i know this is insignificant with three babies, just add it to what you know or suspect. ain't it fun? kurt d.

Thats supports the Co/Dom trait. The hypos are the "het" form if you will, when breed together you get a percentage of extreme hypos and the hypos.
Show us the pics man!!!!!

To post pix, go to the link at the top of the page that says "Photo Gallery". You can download your pix off your computer for free and then when you post, there will be a drop down box at the bottom of the page where you can select which pix you want to include. If you need more space for pix than the free photo gallery allows, you can pay for a larger account. However, you can also delete pix whenever you need more space instead.
