Funky Sav

My Savana Monitor, "Eros", has a weird cycle where every 3 weeks or so, he gets all lethargic and won't move around in his tank much. He sits between the side of the tank and his heat rock all the time whether the rock is on or off and doesn't try to hide like he normaly does when I come into the room. Any ideas on what this could be a sign of or is it normal? Eros is about 7-8 months old, 5 1/2" or so from head to tail (basicly still a hatchling), eats mostly crickets and the occasional pinky or fuzzy mouse.

A monitor at 8 months should be old enough to reproduce. The first problem is a heat rock as they are dangerous and junk, throw it out fast. Next your monitor wants to bask at high surface temps like 130 degrees from under a lit up source and be able to hide and conserve moisture or cool off in a deep substrate like dirt. Create a temp gradient of 86 down to 75 or less in his cage (make sure its large to). At 8 months old a healthy bosc can be up to 30 inches long. This is a start next read the monitor care sheet on pro exotics and the faqs on Varanus.net and Varanus creations. They are the only good ones out there.
