Anery Question

sparsons25 Mar 22, 2006 03:41 PM

I have a female 100% het for anetheristic red tail and a male normal red tail. If I bred them would would I get from that clutch? If I kept one and later bred it back to my femal 100% het what would I get? When, if ever, would the anetheristic trait show from these breedings?

all the offspring from this breeding (normal x het anery) will be normal 50% het anery. this means that half of the litter will accualy be het anery and the other half will just be normal.
if you were to keep a baby and breed it back to the mother you cuold have two outcomes. if you picked a baby that turned out to be normal (you can only tell by breeding it) you will have the same outcome as the original breeding. if you got lucky and picked a baby that was het anery then you would get the following:
25% anery
50% het anery
25% normal

if you are attempting to produce an anery i would suggest getting another 100% het anery and breeding it to your female. this way you will not be inbreeding and you will also be able to more successfuly and quickly produce your first anery.

Thanks for your reply. What if I got a anery male and then bred it to my 100% het female. What would that produce? Also If I got another 100% male and had anery babies, what would be good to breed the babies with? Thank you.

if you got an anery male and bred it to your het anery female, half the litter would be anery and the other half would be 100% het anery. in my opinion this would be the best breeding in your situation because its always better to have 100% hets, and you will also produce anerys.
what to bred to these babies is up to you. it depends what you want to ultimately produce. say you were looking to ultimately produce ghost boas then maybe you should get a ghost boa to breed to your female. Or if you wanted to spend less you could get a double het ghost boa (hypo het anery).

ghost x het anery
25% ghosts
25% anery
25% hypo het anery
25% het anery

double het ghost x het anery
12.5% ghost
12.5% anery
25% hypo het anery
25% het anery
12.5% hypo
12.5% normal
* you would not be able to tell the normals from the het anerys and the hypos from the hypo het anerys

it all depends on how much money you want/have to spend and what you are looking to produce in the end. if you are just looking to breed small time and dont plan to keep many adult snakes i would just suggest getting an anery or ghost and just keep breeding that to your het anery female.
