Anery Question

sparsons25 Mar 22, 2006 03:41 PM

I have a female 100% het for anetheristic red tail and a male normal red tail. If I bred them would would I get from that clutch? If I kept one and later bred it back to my femal 100% het what would I get? When, if ever, would the anetheristic trait show from these breedings?

Anery is a recessive trait, in order for it to show both parents must pass on the anery gene.

Your 100% het for anery bred to a nornal would produce:

100% - Normal 50% het for anery.

You can't tell the difference between the half that got the anery gene from mom and the other half that got the normal gene.

If you saved back a male and bred it back to your female, IF it was one of the het babies (50% chance) then you'd get:

25% anery
25% normal looking with the anery gene from mom
25% normal looking with the anery gene from dad
25% normal looking with no anery genes at all

In other words:

25% anery
75% normal (66% het for anery)

thank you for the reply. what would you suggest that i breed with my anery het female?

rainbowsrus Mar 24, 2006 11:02 PM

There's only two direct descendent morphs you can get with that female, Anery and Ghost.

To get anery's, you'd need a het male or an anery male. IMO better to get the anery male.

Ghost is a combination of Hypo and Anery, since hypo is a dominant trait, you could get either a double het ghost aka Hypo het for anery or a ghost. Again, IMO would be better to get the ghost.

If you are successful in breeding I'm assuming you won't be keeping all the babies, Much harder to sell or otherwise get rid of possible hets.

What would I get if I crossed her with a DH Ghost?

rainbowsrus Mar 25, 2006 12:37 PM

Het anery x double het ghost:

1/8 ghost
1/8 anery
3/8 hypo (66% het anery)
3/8 normal (66% het anery)

That may be something that I am interested in trying. I'd like to be able to produce both ghost and anery. How are you able to tell the difference between the hypos and normals? What would be reasonable prices to sell these babies for?

rainbowsrus Mar 26, 2006 01:47 AM

When you have a litter, you'll be able to see a marked difference. For prices, check the listings. Remember, big name breeders can command higher price, as a unknown or relatively unknown breeder you'd have to ask less.

Of course if the babies were outstanding, then so would be the asking price

Get the ghost male. If you have to save for a year, it's still worth it. Then you know what every baby is, no "poss hets". I've been burned several times buying "hets", and even if your girl is a normal, you will still get all anery hets, half dbl het snow. With the dbl het male, you get a lot of question marks.
