Name that Boa?

madisonrecords Mar 22, 2006 05:08 PM

I got into another debate today with an old Herper friend of mine and we were once again talking about Locality as it concerns Mainland Boas. I always love to discuss such matters and my opinions have always sounded contradicting, but they are anything but that. Most of you, have heard my beliefs on differentiating alot " not all " of Mainland Boas, based on outword appearances alone, so I will not get into another long sermon on it. Here are some pictures. Now some of you have already seen these Boas posted by me before and know what I call them and why I call them that, but just for the sake of curiosity and especially for those who have not seen them, what do they look like to you? If most of you were to make a small bet on what locality these Boas are based on appearance, what would be your best guess? Just a little fun for those who are as bored as me right now.........Johnson Herp

To me they look like central Suriname the first one a bit more like a Venezuelan. But then again, that will be my educated guess.

Suriname. They have some characteristics that would make me think North Brazilian though, so a more educated guess would be SOUTHERN Surinames.

I'm better with BCI, lol!

But I am going to say Southeastern Colombian.....

LOL, Maybe you are more educated that I am, but is a very funny reply anyway.
Think very highly of your self. LOL

name " Southern Suriname " and that is what they are. They look more like some of the first Brazilians that I seen 20yrs ago and after spending some time in Suriname and Guyana and talking to some of the hunters, these Boas are usually found in the Southern most part of Suriname and tend to be cleaner and more yellow and gold or bronze. In the North, they of course tend to swing more toward purple and grey and pink and red or a mixture of one or more. The Southern's that are occasionally brought in, even are void of scars and look like captives. Anyway, there are not many of these brought in and when you can luck up on some, it is rare. I am glad that I see things in Boas through experiance and travels in Suriname and Guyana, that some others do not and I have lucked up on a few Boas even hear lately, that the people I bought them from, probably should not have sold them. Beauty, seems to be what most people are after and Locality guys like myself are becoming a dying breed. Beauty, is definatly in the " Eye of The Beholder. "........Johnson Herp

the first one had broader saddles, I would have been convinced it was a Brazilian. On the other hand, the second one screams Suriname. However, both have traits of boas from the other locale. Since they were from the same place, and true Brazilians are uncommon, I assumed a boardering locale, thus Southern Suriname.

Nice Boas!

No clue really. They are very nice looking regardless.
