What type of frog should I get?

LizardLadyAma Jul 28, 2003 06:54 PM

Hi everyone!

Ok, so I have my finished 75 gallon vivarium...

What types of frogs would do well in this tank? I read in one of the recent posts that certain frogs wouldn't do well in "bog" tanks... This is a pretty wet tank, and whoever I choose to live in it, I want them to be happy.

I would like to have at least a pair of fairly large, colorful frogs, (aren't most of them?). How many (of the same type) could live comfortably in this tank?

Any suggestions? I'm COMPLETELY new to dart frogs, so any advice would be great.

THANKS!
Kelly

P.S. I now have a trio of neon tetras living in the pool of this tank... they seem to love it, I think they're breeding!!

I would go for about 4-6 leucs for that big of a tank. They were my first frogs and they are very cool, and active.

I agree with Kyle that leucs would be a great choice. Both for that tank and as a start to your frog collection. However, ever since you first posted pics of that tank it has said Dendrobates castaneoticus to me. They are great little frogs if you can find some. They are called Brazil Nut Frogs because they breed in those nut shells like you have in there. I was lucky enough to visit Todd Kelly's home and collection in March and he had a similiar tank. It was full of castaneoticus frogs. He told me they were all from one pair of frogs and had breed on their own inside the tank. Good luck with which ever species you choose.
