Bulging Eyes in Albino Boas & Deformed

theboaguy Mar 22, 2006 07:35 PM

Hi All,
Yesterday my 66% female that was bred to a hypo het gave birth to several babies. 4 albinos, several hypos, and some normals. One of the babies was deformed. I noticed today that 3 of the four Albinos have some eye problems. I know that this is not all that uncommon but both parents are perfect. Should I just let the eyes fall out or what.

Don't know what to say....hope it was a gestation problem and not genetic.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

when i drive by the gas station and see the ever rising prices!!
Thats bad.. i dont have no experiance with eyes like that, im sure someone in here has a few pointers on that.

Good luck with it. I surely wouldnt breed it.
Im sure some may suggest putting it down...not sure what i would do in this instance... your sure cant sell it, maybe donate to a classroom to raise as a pet.
I seriously doubt the eyes can be saved, but if you wanted to try , id put some opthalmic ointment on them, and keep them moist untill it sheds, then see what develops.

Good luck

but that may be a great candidate for the freezer.

consider getting some unrelated hets to add in and outbreed as much as possible to try to get away from those type of defects.

Bummer on the defects. I would take the albinos with eye problems to a vet. My best guess is have the eyes removed and if possible have them sterilized (males easier then females) Then just either donate them out as mentioned above or??? Definetely don't want them purchased by someone who may use them for future breeding stock.

As far as the kinked half/half I definetely would put that one down if it hasn't passed away already. I can't see how it will have a functioning life as the back half looks premature.

That sucks. I would definitely put those down and I would never breed the two parents to each other again.
