This was her first breeding. I've had her since she was 2ft. Never ever been exposed to a male! Except the SUPER!
I ment this was my 2nd litter of the year...sorry...

it doesn't make sense. Does it look like the female (pattern)?

I have some ideas, but this is mind boggling.

I do not believe Parthenogenisis has been documented in snakes has it? I know it is common is some lizard/skink species.

there have been reported cases in Rattlesnakes. I also think it occured within another family.

There is a blind snake that all are female and reproduce through parthenogenisis exclusively.

Run a google search, you may find information on reported cases.

Congrats on that fine litter!!!! I have been hearing about this more and more....Anery's popping up in otherwise normal litters....seems like there should be an explanation for it....Now I wish I kept that Ghostly colored one from my first litter....

Nice litter and hope to see more pics! Andy Federico

If the male was a super shouldn't the anery be a Ghost? Also, I think I have some ghost in the litter but wanted to wait until they shed to make that conclusion...Check out the baby on the right. Does that look ghostly? CK the tail...

Jesse ( sojourner) had some female anerys pop up in a litter from their anery mother and the male that bred her was not a het, or anery...

The thing thats weird here is Gregs female that produced these babies is not an anery, She's a pastel.. If it was parthenogenisis the baby would be the same thing as mom.. So the anery has got to be a total freak to have shown in the litter and not be a ghost..

Parthenogenisis, and happens to be a freak anery at the same time?

It looks like the rest of them are all hypos Greg. I'd call it a one in a million chance litter If anything you have a brand new line of anery right there!

start to gain color with age. I have heard of premies looking very aneryish when first born.

Luke9815 Mar 23, 2006 02:45 PM

You said it was a possible super...and no matter how many hypos you have...if you have a normal in the litter that proves that it is not a super. It does look anery though...so either it could be just a wierd fluke that popped up...or your hypo isn't a super....

I got 24 total babies and 23 were hypo. The only one that wasn't seems to be an anery. Now, the male isn't a anery or het? The female is a pastel, not anery or het? So they male is a SUPER and the anery was a fluke???
By the way, I have another female due next month bred to this male and a Hogg due in June. We'll see...

I have heard a lot of different ideas, but how about this one...maybe dad is not a Super, maybe odds were way on your side. It's always possible the 3 slugs would have been normals..... Technically you cannot consider your male is even a super until you do further breedings. Good luck with the odd ball, I would love to see some better pictures after it's first shed, to see if in fact it really is an anery.

Congrats again!
