Anyone elses ball not eating?

emzy Mar 23, 2006 08:57 AM

My ball python has not eaten in 4 months! I keep offering her food but she never comes out of her hide spot, not even at night. I got her from a pet store 4 months ago and she was eating at the pet store because 3 weeks later she shed and deficated. She has not shed, eating or deficated since. Im getting a little worried. Is anyone elses snake not eating? She has not lost too much weight, just not a solid as she was. Still strong when I take her out though. Any ways, give me some tips. All her life, she has eaten live and I dont like feeding frozen because I have heard some stories but I have tried freshly killed.... tips anyone?

Just kidding had to fire people up a little .. Im feeling a little mischievous 0...what kind of prey and what size have you offered? Have you tried rat pups? Or hopper mice at night? Gerbils? Furry (Hamster looking) mice? What kind of enclosure is he/she in? Temp? Humidity? We need more details Any thing can trigger a strike when it comes to balls.

Fasting for 4 months during the winter is not unusual - she'll start eating again when she is ready - usually March to April is when they go back on feed.

its a strange thing for me... some eat some dont around this time.... i might have to vet my het pied she hasnt eaten for about a month and it looks like she rubbed her lip on the screen lid before i moved her to a bin ...it's not looking too bad now but she went from 1400 grams and lost about 80-100 grams. I couldnt think what caused it and i thought it was mouth rot at first so i used some rid rot...not looking too bad now but tempted to take her in...not sure about risking a RI because its snowing out and pretty cold...
