Eating Problem with 3" long, 6-day old hatchling........

rdperry5 Jul 28, 2003 07:22 PM

This little guy has only eaten 3 1/8" crickets that I'm sure of. He has drank some water after being misted. I have some infant food (chicken). Can I give him a couple drops of it diluted and calcium/vitamins added? ...or what else can I do for him? The rest of the clutch seems to be eating ok.

some seem to take a bit longer to get going, during their first days they are still absorbing the yolk that they got during the time in the egg. If you feel he needs to be handfed and needs a jumpstart you can get some baby parrot formula, kaytee is one brand, (buy it at petco or petsmart) you can mix it with water or substitute water for pedialyte which is really great for getting them hydrated, and keeping babies well hydrated is really very important. Im not a breeder but have used this forumla with 2 dragons (and my parrots and it works very well to get young ones a bit of a push in the right direction. Keep the mixture more on the watery side. Hope that his helps some, by the way if you cant get to the store right away giving him some of the baby food wont hurt. Is he active and bright eyed?

I would separate him from the rest of the clutch and give him his own cage/tank where he is not stressed out from other dragons and/or humans, pets, etc... that normally helps.

g'luck.
