Crested with dislocated jaw after MBD

jonnyhicks Mar 23, 2006 10:41 AM

Sorry if you have seen this before. Im new to this forum and didn't realise there was a crestie specific forum so i originally posted on the gecko general forum. So here it is again.

Any advice on the following would be a great help.

8 month old crested gecko
Recently suffered from Metabolic Bone Disease, which I didnt spot until I noticed its legs twitching and it had a droopy jaw.

For the last 4 weeks ive been feeding it calcium powder(calypso)and various baby pureed foods. It has got its strength back and is now looking a lot better as well as being a lot more active. The vet said it would still be a couple of months befor its bones returned to normal.

The only problem now is its jaw looks like its dislocated on the left hand side? (see image) It can open and close its jaw, but will mostly sit with it open. Not sure if its up to crickets yet as I dont think it can chew very well.

Will the jaw fall back into place when the bones stiffen up?

If anyone has had any experience please can you let me know what to expect or do.

Cheers

Jon

if it's dislocated the vet should be able to reset it into place. If the jaw is still weak from low calcium it may strengthen up with proper supplimentations of calcium etc. It is also possible it will never return to normal, if the damage done by MBD is too severe. It is something your vet will need to access.
