a question about snows

skmcwilliams Mar 23, 2006 02:47 PM

Yes sorry as if this forum doesn't get hit with snow questions enough I have one now. I have been in the market to buy a Mack snow. I want a male in the 35 gram category. my question is I have been researching both Albey's, JMG, And Alex Hues and of course they are all gorgeous but some have gotten their snows from snow to snow breeding and others from super snow to snow breeding. Does the later make their "snow" offspring genetics more powerful. Also some have more yellow but less spotting and some have more spotting but less yellow, which is the more sought after?

Thanks in advance for any help

Kendra

I like the more spots with no yellow. If the price is the same buy a Super Snow X Snow.

The background genetics would not make a difference in a co-dom trait. I would be more interested in the amount of spotting and the amount of yellow. Different breeders are working toward different things, some less spots and some less yellow. It all matters what you want and what you think is more desireable. Don't buy an animal based on what other people like. It is better to pick the traits you like and work to make them better.

I like Tangerine albinos and hybinos and have decided to work with these to produce better and better offspring. Besides what if you get a sterile animal? Or what if demand for the morph dries up and you don't get your investment money back? It is better to get stuck with a bunch of animals that you like.

My opinion with the snows is that I would chose ones with reduced yellow. This is because I like them better, and because that is what makes a snow a snow. IMHO

Buy one from a Super Snow X Snow breeding. Reason is this, you are assured that the animal in question does contain the gene you are paying for, as well as having been the result of at least one generation of line breeding (Super Snow X Snow) which strengthens the traits that the breeder was trying for in the line.
