Eastern Milk Still not eating

Cito Jul 28, 2003 07:40 PM

I caught my eastern milk snake a little over a month ago, i have offered it about 4 fuzzies (one every week) since i caught it, it has shed, and laid 9 eggs. I last tried feeding it about 3 days after laying the eggs. Why wont it eat? Any suggestions on getting it to eat? I have also tried baby, hairless birds but those havent had to much luck either. He doesnt even seem interested, no flicking of the tongue after i drop the food in. how much longer untill it starts to get to an unhealthy stage and i have to take it to the vet?

I had the same situation. I had a female drop eggs and she never came around so I let her go. She most likely is very stressed and weak. If you have access to them I would try peromyscus mice or deer mice. Use only domesticated "wild" mice as they don't have diseases. I had a few picky eaters that I tried everything with and somebody told me about them. So I acquired a few breeding colonies and poof...everything that refused is eating. I have some that will even take f/t or "regular" mice now. I don't know where you are from but I do have some and know of some breeders in this general area (MD, PA).

Good Luck

Mine just ate last night after having it for a couple of weeks.
i put the snake in a small deli with the pinky mouse over night and it ate.
you cant do that with a weened mouse or even a large fuzzy that might bite the snake, however try a large pinky to get her kick started into feeding again.
