Garage floor paint

markg Mar 23, 2006 06:56 PM

I want to try this stuff in a caging application. The HD near me now sells the 2-part epoxy paint and epoxy clearcoat. They had a sample painted piece of concrete. The finish looked like a shiny piece of ceramic tile, yet they say the finish flexes to resist cracking. It withstands heat, moisture and UV to an extent.

Anyone try this? Very pricey.

Mark,

What is the exact product? How much did they want for it?

I believe you are a west coaster. If so, you should look up your local Kelly Moore distributor and try some Envira-Poxy. It is a waterborne epoxy that is so durable Boeing usings it on the concrete floors of their assembly hangers. It can be used on fine woodwork. Being waterbased you don't even need a respirator unless you're spraying it.

Talked to a rep from the company and he thought it would be idea for our application. After asking him some techical questions he said he'd sell it to me for contractor cost, or $38 per gallon. I think that's 1/2 gallon of each part. It might be a 2:1 mix, I can't remember.

Greg from Cornelsworld used the Canadian equivalent of this product and he seemed very impressed.

Thanks Chris, I'll check that out.

I actually work for who you mentioned, and they redid the hangar floors last year with epoxy. Unbelievable shine, looks like wet paint even after 1000's of people going across it not to mention all of the C-17 transport aircraft assembly jigs.

Don't know the price, but a similar product at another do-it-yourself center was about $80 for the 2-part system and decorative paint flecks, enough to cover a typical 2-car garage.

Well then you already know the product as that's what they used.

Supposed to be amazing stuff.

Regarding the stuff at the DIY centers, I have since learned that Rustoleum has come out with a waterborne system. They still have a solvent based system as well.

But I still think the Envirapoxy is a better choice since it is suitable for woodwork where there will not be a lot of expansion and contraction.

I'm hoping to pick some up during a trip to denver in the next month or so.
