breeders?

ghostco Mar 23, 2006 07:10 PM

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good breeders for common or alligator snapping turtles? I was communicating with someone in the city ( I am in Chicago) about purchasing some of his animals, but that seems to have fallen through.

I was unable to get in contact with P&J and Randleas only has hatchlings ( I am looking for something around 5”). John over at turtleman has what I am looking for, but I also want to see what other options I have.

i was thinking about heading over to lee watson's reptile swap in streamwood IL, but know nothing about it. any one have any experiences over there?

Thanks for the help,
matthew

ive been to lee watsons a few times, although it has been about 2 yrs. ive never seen any alligator snapping turtles available. ive seen commons and florida snappers. also, i thought i read somewhere that the alligators natural range extends into southern IL. and with that being said i thought that allys were protected in their natural range. so with that thinking are alligator snapping turtles legal in IL? check your state and local laws.

I grew up going to Lee Watson's swap. It's definately something different than the larger shows. I haven't seen alligator snappers for sale there in over 10 years and even then they were only sold to out-of-staters. They are illegal in illinois although I have been told permits are relatively easy to get.
