Still a little worried about pregant (I THINK) female

wizbang May 19, 2003 12:03 PM

1. Saw her breed multiple times.(first few days in April)

2. Stopped eating (her choice not mine)

3. Pre-egg laying shed on May 10th.

BUT she is now roaming her cage like she's hungry (although she refused food this weekend). I thought that once they have the shed they just setteled into the nest until they put the egges down. She is hyper (as far as a snake can be hyper). Is this normal? Her hide/nest is the same as always, moist moss so I don't think she needs to search a place out.

Any clues (could she not be preggo?) or should I just shut up and wait for the eggs?

Hey wiz,
It is best now to be patient. It sounds as if you have done everything properly up until this point. If your female is truly gravid she will remain restless to about the time she is ready to lay. Relax, sit back, and just make sure she does have her nest box available at all times. Good luck and certainly let us know of the outcome.

I agree with Nathan, but I will add that she may be restless because she doesn't find the nest box adequate for the job. If I were you I'd remove the water bowl for now, so she doesn't lay her eggs there. She can go a few days without having water.

If you don't want to keep all water away from her, you can introduce the water every day for about 5 minutes or so. "Show" her the water. If she wants it she will drink, if she doesn't drink, remove the water and try again the next day. You just don't want her to lay them in the water bowl or the babies might drown.

Good luck! I'd say she'll lay them in the next few days.

ya know, I haven't seen her in here hide since I posted. I might switch to vermiculite and see if that helps. She's laying right next to it.
