Dandelions are one of the best things you can feed your uro. The leaves are excellent and they usually love the flowers, too. Make sure they are from an UNTREATED lawn!

Dandelions are great for them, mine go nuts when they see them. I'll still have to wait for another 6 weeks to see them around here. I don't use anything on what we laughingly refer to as our lawn so I can pick the dandelions and clover for the uros. I buy the dandelion greens at a grocery store. Has anyone ever grown dandelions? I was thinking of giving it a try so I would have the flowers for more of the year.

A seed source for true dandelion is Johnny's Selected Seeds. You can order from their catalog or online.

i'm not saying i have a green thumb or anything, far from it, but since dandelions seems to sprout like no other, i thought they would be easy to grow. i never even got them to sprout just a little. i was thinking of buying a cheap plant and then putting the seeds in there to see if they would grow better

I just started dandelions in my patio garden. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm insane. How deep did you plant them? Did you keep them moist? They take quite awhile to sprout, contrary to the "crazy growing weed" stigma. 7-14 days or so are what mine take. Either sprinkle the seeds (a good 4-6... some seeds always manage to be bad) just on top of the dirt or barely barely cover them with an eighth-inch of soil. Keep 'em moist (not soaking though and give them enough time. If you did all that, then they may just be bum seeds...

i didn't plant them deep, but maybe i put too many. i had a little window box and dumped like half the bag into it. also it was very dry in san diego so maybe i didn't keep it moist enough. i figured they would just grow like weeds, ha ha
