...bummer....you otta post a bunch of pics of his dorsal & head...theyre all unique (supposedly)....was it a break in burglary? Ya gotta know whoever did this knows you pretty well...good luck finding them & pummel the soft spots w/ your fists...use a tool on the hard parts

Robert, the more I think about this situation the more I believe it has to be someone who knows you but maybe indirectly. I would get with anyone who knew you had gilas in that area and get their names to local law enforcement, sometimes if kids are involved the police have interigation methods that get results. Im sure you have suspects in mind, my best guess is that they were foolish kids otherwise they would have taken the female to.
Good luck, hope you catch whomever it was.

Sorry to hear of the theft, I hope you are able to recover him.

That sucks....I hope things work out!! They broke into your house and only took the one animal? Obviously they knew what they wanted....I agree with the others, must be someone who knows you....I don't know how often stolen animals are recovered but I wish you the best!!! I will keep my eyes open on the classifieds and such....

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Hey Robert, that is a great attitude to have. Remember "Tough times are what we have to go through to get to where we are going". I have had plenty myself. Also Consider a couple of good guard dogs. I own four Mastiffs & believe me I sleep real soundly at night.
Take care brother,

Sorry to hear of your loss, I have no sympathy for thieves, he would be paying a high price for his larcinous behavior. Offer a reward for information, some crackers will flip for very little.

I really feel for you, and I hope you track down the thief. Gilas are not only valuable animals, but to me they are the most "pet like" reptile I've owned. They definitely have unique personalities. My wife likes to joke that they are the only reptile she's ever seen me "talk" to. Its a pretty dispicable act to steal another mans pet.

I would call the larger dealers and brokers and send them a picture of the animal. You might see if anyone is going to be at any of the venomous shows, like Hamburg, and can keep an eye out for it. Anyway, best of luck recovering your gila.

BTW - does anyone microchip their heloderms?

after seeing what it did to my dog's neck, I wont pit tag again, the needle they use is something like a 12-14 gauge. Imagine sticking a small straw into your arm and injecting a grain of rice. OUCH
