Do Rhino Iguanas drink water?

august9 Jul 28, 2003 08:53 PM

I have a 3 year old Rhino, but I have never seen him drink out of his water dish. Unlike my green iguanas, he hates taking baths and seems completely terrified of the water. I know that it is rare to see an iguana drink, but I would like to find out if anyone knows if Rhinos ever drink, or if they just get their water from their food?

If they are on a salad diet, they can usually get enough moisture out of the food that they eat. Those that feed dry diets must provide water. Normally the only time I have ever seen them drinking alot of water is when a female is gravid, usually the first thing that they want after laying eggs.

Whether you see him drink or not, always keep a bowl of water in his enclosure because it is generally good husbandry. Mine drink gobs of water, but I also feed dry food.

I see my Rhinos drinking water all of the time. They will take a drink in the tub and Bubbles uses the dog's water dish frequently, usually spilling it before she's finished. Keep fresh water available all of the time.
