How are gray bands for handling?

RalphSnakeMan Jul 28, 2003 09:01 PM

Hello all,
Currently I have a Desert Kingsnake which has a beautiful tame personality she lets me hold her, form her around my hands she even let me hold her head to check out her eye a few times most snakes would have bit but she didn't.
I also have 2 hatchling hondos which are realy wackos they are horrible to handle, they musk me or bite me everytime i pick them up which is typical of milk snakes, especially hatchlings.

My next planned purchase is of a pair of baby gray banded kings, although I've searched I have found no information on how they handle. Are they easy to handle or are they rough?

I would really appreciate a response.

Thank you for your time,
Ralph

I have a pair of gray bands, the only time I've been bit since I got them a year ago was when I was feeding teh boy and he thought my finger was a pinky. Otherwise they never strike or anything. I think I read somewhere that gray bands were some of the calmer kingsnakes, the only problem seems to be getting them to feed on pinkies.

Well, I believe that its the way you handle; any snake can be harmless(with some exceptions..)if you know how to handle. but overall, gray bands are quite docile creatures.

i'm sure there are a few exceptions out there, but every greyband i've ever met, heard about, and all my 11 are the easiest species to handle. no mood swings like corns can have, no striking phase when they're young, no attitude like some cal kings or milks. they are pretty slow moving, and i've been bit once by a baby and it was My Fault.

all around very calm easy to manage snakes. i would recommend getting them to just about anyone.
