How would we go about making a few stickies for this forum? I think we could add a few stickies so that the same 3 questions don't get asked all the time.

I'm thinking of a few:

1. Mixing darts. Why people in the hobby are against it/for it, etc.
2. Food (Dendroboard has an amazing sticky on this, I could ask Arklier (who did most of it) if she would copy it to this forum).
3. Basic tank design (false bottoms, verts, etc.)

What do you guys think?

Seems like a good idea, Josh, but this information is already available to anyone who is searching for it. I think that a forum is about personal contact and response from a real person, not just a list or link to an advice article, care sheet, etc. People new to the hobby want to contact a real person, someone they can relate to, as a friend. I think that is what most beginner forums should cater to. Anyone can read a book or do a search and find out all sorts of stuff, but a new hobbyist, and most people prefer some kind of personal mentor with a new endeavor. You have been one of the best of all for this kind of personal support. It does get redundant for those of us with some experience after awhile, but each new person asking the same question we've heard over and over, is essentially newborn and doesn't know this. It is fresh to them. They want a fresh personal answer from a real person. My first encounter with a question, not many years ago, was with John Skilcorn of the British Dendrobatid group. He obviously had a lot of other things to do, but still took a serious personal interest in what I now realize was a silly problem at time--but it made a lot of difference to me.

I think the whole world has become too automated with "press 1 for one thing, and 2 for something else, and never calling and getting a real human being, only an automated voice. We should revert to being real human beings.

I think posting a few stickies would be a good idea. Just enough info to cover some prelim. basic stuff. It is faster when you need answers now rather than waiting for someone else to respond.
Now don't get me wrong I actually agree with Patty completely. I prefer the personal contact and reassurance from someone with experience to a newbie on the block.
I'm just saying to have a quick starter page is a great idea then someone new (ie me) can think about it a bit then ask some more specific questions pertaining to their particular circumstances.

I agree totally with Patty. This hobby looses people too quickly (surprisingly after people invest thousands of dollars). I just think a few stickies to answer the most common questions allows more information to get posted. I (and others) just don't have time to explain things to the degree we could with a sticky every day. I think people would still ask questions, but the questions would be more pointed if they had the base knowledge in the first hand.

Maybe include some links with pictures on various ways to set up a false bottom, if we wouldn't be breaking the forum rules. There used to be some good ones on some of the personal web sites, but I can't even remember whose they were anymore. I think this is the most difficult subject to explain so that it can be understood, although I keep changing the ways in which I do myself it as I experiment with different stuff.
