Husbandry problems

nymph Mar 25, 2006 04:17 PM

I think I may have a problem with my setup. I have a humid hide on th warm side and a dry hide on the cooler side. I have a supplement dish, and a water dish. I keep them on paper towels. And have a UTH that is the appropriate size. The temp is great, according to what everyone has told me is ideal, however they are always in the humid hide, unless it is night then they walk around, eat, play, etc. Mine just shed last night, only a little mask left on the face, but it's almost off, toes went fine. My hubbies is going to shed. Could that be why they have been spending all thier time in the humid hide for the last 2 weeks??? Or do I need to change something. Thanks!!!

Ok, thanks. I will get that taken care of. Also, how many leopard geckos would you say is ok to keep per tank size??? Like how many in a twenty. Adult size, baby size etc??? Thanks. Right now I have 2 in a twenty. I want to get a bigger tank but they are only babies now, so is that good. Thanks!

One more thing... I agree that you should have 2 hides on the warm side and maybe just one normal one on the cool side. Dont be real surprised tho even after you add one to the warm side if they still spend the day in the humid hide. There nocturnal so you shouldnt be seing much of them during the day and its really personal preferance on there part on which hide they usre but it will most likely be one of the ones on the warm side during the day! Good luck!

It's absolutely normal for Leo's to prefer the humid hides. All 13 of mine spend a majority of their "hide" time in their humid hides.

As for how many Leos per tank size, 2 adults in a 20 gal long is the max for that size. A 30 gal breeder tank can house 3 or 4 adults, a 40 gal breeder tank can house upto 6. Just be sure you don't try to house males together, it's best to keep only females in a group. Even some females will not get along though, so you have to be prepared to house them separately if necessary.
