Tegus & Argus together?

yvonbug Mar 25, 2006 05:47 PM

I posted this question in the argus forum, but not too many people seem to go there. We are getting a 3ft tegus, male pretty soon and wondered if it would cage well with an argus, who is also 3ft and male.

I'll let the pro's get into more details but it is usually a bad idea to hows males of any species together. Unless you like to watch a death match. Seperate is always better.

I agree that its not a good idea. I had two male tegus and they wouldn't even get along, no matter what I did. Its going to depend on the animals, but use extreme caution because those animals could inflict major damage on each other in the blink of an eye. Ive never had an argus, but I was under the impression they were semi aggressive. Putting those two together is something I would definately avoid. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

Thanks for your opinions. We will not put the two together. We don't want to risk hurting our friends. Oh boy, time to build another cage!

I tried that with a young water monitor and an Argentine B/W Tegu. Both were the same size. I put them into the very large enclosure and they went right at each other, locking down on each others head and throat. Had I not been there to seperate them they would have killed each other.
It was exremely violent. Seperate them for sure.
