hide boxes

what do you all recommend for hide an laying boxes (i keep bp's and cresteds)?

i'm thinking about burning holes in plastic gladware and flower pots to ensure smooth edges, but i have one concern: since actually burning platic gives off fumes and there is gas in the torch, do i risk altering the sompostion of theplastic in a way that could harm the animals in the long term, or is it pretty much, once it cools off it's just like it was before?

I’d recommend flower pot saucers, not flower pots. Generally, snakes like it low and tight. The cheap plastic ones like that pictured below can be cut easily with a utility knife.

Regarding your concern about burning holes in plastic – the only worry you should have is breathing the fumes while you're doing it. It won’t affect the reptiles after it has cooled.

cool, thanks....the ones in your pic are actually what i'm using as water dishes for all of my pets anyway, so i have a million of them....so, have you found that the snakes prefer a top entry as opposed to a side one?

The top entry is really just for the most structural stability - especially with that thin-walled plastic and heavy snakes. Also, the smaller the hole, the better, I think, just for the sense of security it imparts to the occupant.

I use flower pot holders and cat litter boxes for my adult ball pythons.
