Boa Gave Birth This Morning

floridaisstupid Mar 26, 2006 10:23 AM

Thanks to all who gave me info on my last post. My female gave birth this morning to 17 healthy little ones, and one slug. It was her first time giving birth and I am happy. Would anyone know what I should do to clean them off? Do I let them shed on their own? Rinse them with warm water to get the gunk off? I put an extra heat pad on a 20 long layed down a peice of terf which fits the tank, and then covered that with some magazine paper for their soft skin. I have a heat bulb on them right now ontop of the heat pad, so they should be warm enough. If anyone has any info which could help me, or let me know if I am doing everything right it would be helpful. Thanks alot.

When our babies were born 2 weeks ago, we just put them in a blanket box with a heat pad, set on med. Substrate was moist paper towels, that way there unbilicle cords didnt get stuck to the paper, and kept them warm and humid. As far as washing them I would sugest just keeping there tank warm and humid, dont worry about washing them it might make there extra yolk/ their unbilicle cords fall off too early. Keep the cage clean and after their first shed you can set them up in clean indivitual shoe boxes and offer them their first meal or small mice or rat pinks.
