Shedding Question

milksandbeer Mar 26, 2006 02:11 PM

In the last couple of sheds my Eastern Milk had the skin has come off in little pieces, real ragged. My guess is that it is a moisture thing. I guess you can let 'em soak in the water dish, huh?

Thanks

Assuming the snake knows about the water bowl, yes, by all means let it soak. And trust me, as odd as it may sound, not all N.A. milks are going to use the water bowl for anything at all.
I've had a couple individual difficult shedders and resorted to either soaking the snake for 30 min after the eyes clear again or plopping a clump of wet shredded newspaper with a fat rock underneath in a temporary type cage.
Keep an eye on this one when it turns blue and maybe try a different substrate.
All for now, Jeff

I just started taking a few warm wet paper towels and bunching them up and just setting them on top of the snake in shed when it is under its paper towels. I use paper towels in the whole cage and I put some aspen at one end over a hide. The wet paper towels worked great. Derek

After the eyes clear up fill up the water bowl with warm water & place it directly over the heat pad.. In an hour or two the walls of the enclosure will fog up. The increased humidity is usually enough to help with the shed. If your using a tank with a screen top cover the screen top with plastic bags to keep the humidity in... ~ Mike

I let him soak for a bit and about an hour later he shed and it came off in one piece.

He's looking good now.......
